About Chicken π
(scroll down for pics)
Chicken came to me through Crisis Dogs NC in dire need of a foster home (he was one day away from euthanasia) & Iβm still not sure how he ended up in a shelter in the first place. He is such a cute, sweet and active companion.
After decompressing at home with Tteoki (pronounced Duckie) and I, he blossomed into the most fun, adventurous and happy dog. Now, itβs time to find his forever home (maybe itβs with you?!).
Chicken is:
2 years old, weights 26 pounds and is cute as ever
neutered, up to date on shots, flea, heartworm and tick
self-entertaining and plays very well with toys and bones
high prey, food, and toy drive (AKA very trainable)
(also) in a training program and learning very quickly
very sweet, curious and loves to be with his handler
VERY affectionate β loves pets, rubs, snuggles and giving kisses
great on a leash and loves to go for walks (would be a great hiking or adventure buddy, would also make a great shop dog)
doing wonderfully with crate training (eating and sleeping in the crate, and crating when no one is home)
a little skiddish with loud or strange noises, nervous about new people at first (will bark, may growl, but opens up and is very loving very quickly)
An ideal forever home would include:
A loving owner who is genuinely looking for a companion dog, and is willing to continue his training
a single dog or double dog household. He would do well with another (more mature) dog (to show him the ropes) in the house, but would also make a great solo companion
A fairly active owner, who is looking for a walking/running/hiking/working/frisbee buddy. Chicken loves to go on adventures, hanging in the pottery studio while I work, and has lots of energy and curiosity. Ideally, he needs somewhere to focus his energy. He is not for a couch potato! (Though, he does also know how to rest hard)
A home with lots of toys and bones. This pup loves to play and is happy to play by himself. And he loves variety. Throwing and retrieving his toys or hiding and finding his bones are some of his favorite pastimes on his own.
A fenced in backyard would be ideal.
Some details to be aware of:
Chicken is a rescue β which means his history is unknown. I can attest that heβs a super eager-to-please dog, AND that he has a lot of nervous energy & will need to be with a family who can provide a calm, stable and loving environment for him to fully blossom.
Chicken is a FAST learner. He came to me without knowing or understanding βsitβ, but within 2 days he is quick to sit when I say βsitβ, most especially if a treat is in my hand.
Iβm also not entirely sure if he was housebroken/potty trained prior to coming here. He peed ONCE in the house (I saw him during the act and directed him to the backyard). He pooβd ONCE in the house (I picked it up and put it in the yard). He has not done either again since. And now he goes by the backdoor to wait to go outside when he needs to eliminate. :)
He loves going for walks (gets so excited when the leash comes out), but he has not yet figured out that when we are walking outside, he is free to use the bathroom. This is kind of a funny thing, which is why I think it the easiest transition for him will be with someone who has a fenced in backyard for him to feel most comfortable (at least in the beginning) to potty freely.
